Legal Support to Rajitha Begam to live in her husbandís house Ė Role of Karaikudi jamaat, Sivagangai District

Rajitha Begam is a 39 years old women living in Karaikudi, Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu, India. She has 12 years old son and 15 years old daughter. Her husband is working in abroad and come to India once in a year. During his visit he will spend only few days with Rajitha and her children and spend remaining holidays in his friendís house. Slowly his relationship with his friendís wife developed and he started avoiding his presence with Rajitha. Being a powerful person in the area he approached Jamaat, talked ill of the character of his wife. As a result of this, Jamaat announced that Rajitha and her children are being evicted from Jamaat. Jamaat also threatened Rajitha to vacate the house which belongs to his husband. People send by Jamaat gone to the extend of throwing stones on her house and life threatening of herself and her children. She approached STEPS to help her to live in the house. STEPS wrote to Jamaat asking for reason asking to vacate the house. STEPS helped Rajitha to live in her husbandís house. After a series of problem from her husband and Jammat, STEPS succeeded in giving the house to Rajitha Begam. Now Rajitha has rented a portion of her house for her survival and live peacefully in the house.
