Moral support to Rasitha Begam in her decision – Role of Karisalpatti Jamaat, Sivagangai District

Rasitha Begam is a 29 years old Muslim Women of Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu, India, married to Samsudin in 2000. Her in-laws family cheated Rasitha’s Family by saying that Samsudin is working in Malaysia and earning lot of money. Actually he went to Malaysia once after her marriage just to wind off their business which went under loss. In his absence, Rasitha faced lot of violence in all forms from her mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Hence she came back to her parents by saying that she wants to complete her graduation. After delivering a boy baby, she called him to live in a nuclear family several times. But he did not live with her. As if a play boy Samsudin come to her and stay for few days and again go his parents home. He never realised himself as a head of the family and a responsible person to take care of his wife and son. Rasitha approached STEPS for a solution to her problem. STEPS also took efforts in taking with Samsudin to live together. But he did not deserve any thing. Now, with all struggles, Rasitha has completed her post graduation and working in a reputed college in Pudukkottai. She has turned as a brave woman to say ‘Talaq’ (method by which Muslim men can ask for divorce her wife). She says that when a man has every right to say ‘Talaq’ to a woman for flimsy reason, why can’t I say ‘Talaq’ to an ‘Irresponsible’ man. STEPS is providing all sort of moral support to her and proceeds with legal and religious formalities in the execution of her decision.
